BRITISH LOAN TO CHINA,

FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.

SHANGHAI, OCT. 8.

The Hong Kong Government has advanced to Chang Chi Tung a loan of £1,100,000 for ten years at four and a half per cent., and repayable in annual instalments, to redeem the Hau-kau Canton Railway. The sum of £700,000 has been sent to New York and £400,000 was paid to Chang Chi Tung at Wu-chang yesterday. The security is the opiam revenue in Hu-peh, Hu- nan, and Canton.
